Since 2007, the Seven:16 foundation has supported after-school design programs in schools.
All children deserve a chance to express themselves, regardless of socio-economic background. It is through the creative process that artistic children get the release of built up energy and anxiety and form trust in their intuition and develop a self love that will shine bright.
As a child I loved art class but was stuck in a boring, archaic school system that only allotted 40 minutes, one time per week to be creative, as per the school curriculum. I knew this was ludicrous and it had to change. At that time, my inspiration came from organic sources and I had to trust my brewing design intuition to be creative. I often felt like I was the only one thinking outside of the box and knew that there must be something more. Looking back, I know that my passion was the 'something more' that I was in search of, my inner creativity was just beginning to be tuned. This concept is the objective of seven:16. We are here to inspire a community of young creative types; to built strength from within and for the future.
Our name, seven:16 also developed a long time ago, before internet and video streaming, when being a child of the 80's was still cool. Every morning before school my mom, sister and I would eat breakfast together and at 7:16am we had to leave the house to meet the school bus. Also, my birth day is the 7th and my mom's the 16th, which always reminds me of our special relationship. These numbers have always been signifiant and have followed me into adulthood. Today when I see 7:16 on a clock it's a simple reminder to smile and to reflect on the life I've created and get to share with those needing inspiration.
